I was very impressed by Dr. Nathan’s dedication to her research of college students and career as a cultural anthropologist. Being able to take up so much of her time and completely change her lifestyle showed me that she is very passionate about her work.

The way that Dr. Nathan described welcome week was very interesting to me because it seemed to be a mirror image of my welcome week here at Bloomsburg. Everything from the decorations and flyers she described, to the way the RA’s acted was exactly like it was here at Bloomsburg. When Dr. Nathan mentioned about the amount of stuff being moved into the dorms, it reminded me of when I was moving in and how much stuff people had. I also remembered how it seemed like girls had much more stuff to move in than guys. It seemed like girls had 2-3 bins full of their things, while guys only had 1-2. Maybe this is due to the idea that females usually seem to have much more clothing, shoes, and jewelry than males.

Dr. Nathan also went on to describe how diverse the lives were of many of the students she observed. This is something that is very vital in making a University so unique and such an incredible experience. Being able to attend college is a privilege and an incredible opportunity, and I feel Dr. Nathan did a very good job of showing this.
